The 15
most commonly asked questions:
-
Who is Gary Goodman? Gary has been performing for children’s
audiences in South Florida for over 20 years. His name is widely
recognized as the most professional, reliable, and entertaining magician
in the area. He has performed at over 150 schools in Broward and Palm
Beach Counties.
-
What is a “Comedy Magic & Illusion Show”? A one-hour
extravaganza filled with unbelievable magic, appearing and disappearing
doves and rabbit, large grand illusions (like the ones you see on TV)
performed with a female assistant, audience participation, hand-clapping
music, and tons of laughs!
-
Where does he perform the show? The cafeteria stage is perfect.
Also a nearby high school auditorium or gymnasium can be used if your
school doesn’t have a stage in the cafeteria.
-
How is the event promoted? Gary supplies you with everything
you need to promote the show to your students. He mails you crowd-stopping
posters with a spot for show info, a flyer containing all the selling
points to send home with each student, a one-minute video of a
“commercial” to show on your closed-circuit televisions, and samples of
show tickets plus selling tips from other schools. The video really gets
the 3rd-5th graders excited when they see it’s not
just a show for the little ones. Schools describe this as the easiest and
most successful program they’ve ever organized.
-
What age group does this appeal to? All ages…students,
siblings, parents, and grandparents!
-
Does the school supply the sound system and staging? No. Gary
arrives “self-contained” with his own state-of-the-art sound system and
curtains.
-
Will everyone fit in our cafetorium? This is never a problem.
But, if your school has a population of over 1,000 and the cafeteria can
only hold 250-300 students, Gary has two solutions. He can do two shows on
consecutive nights or even better…both shows on the same night with a
30-minute intermission between shows. He also suggests beginning the event
at least 30-minutes prior to the show time for selling food, raffle
tickets, etc. Gary has great pre-show music!
-
What is the “formula” to pay for the Family Fun Night and also make money
for ourselves? Hang up posters, distribute flyers, advertise on
your marquee, play one-minute commercial on your closed-circuit
televisions, sell food (pizza, soda, popcorn) prior to the show, have a
raffle to win a magic set (available through Gary), and very importantly
pre-sell tickets only. Let families know that there are only a certain
number of tickets available and ticket sales are on a
first-come-first-serve basis. Sell tickets for three or four dollars.
-
What if we don’t sell enough tickets to pay for the Family Fun Night Show?
Gary guarantees that if you follow his tried and true “formula” your
school will not lose money. If you haven’t made enough money from the
tickets, food, and raffle sales then Gary will make up the difference.
Gary guarantees you will not lose a dollar on his Family Fun Night show.
-
If we have Gary perform again next year will he bring the same magic and
illusions? Never! Gary keeps a record of every magic trick he
performs at each school to guarantee no repeats.
-
Is Gary available to perform at our school assemblies, book fairs, or
carnivals? Absolutely! He has developed themed programs (i.e.,
The Magic of America, Reading is Magic, Say NO to Drugs, the Safety Show,
Spooktacular Halloween, Reward Program, End-of-Year) that are extremely
popular.
-
How many people in the show? Gary, a female assistant, and a
stage hand.
-
How long does it take to set-up and break-down the show? Gary
and his crew arrive two hours prior to show time with a cargo van loaded
with magic, illusions and sound equipment. It only takes one hour to
break-down the show.

-
How far in advance should I call to inquire about a date? AS
SOON AS POSSIBLE! Some schools call up to a year in advance and others
call a few weeks in advance. Remember, Gary also gets calls from churches,
temples, and many private parties. The Family Fun Night show is in great
demand, so it is important to contact Gary as soon as possible to secure
your favorite date. Give yourself peace-of-mind when planning your next
Family Fun Night or assembly program by calling the entertainer with
experience… Gary Goodman.
